6 years agoThe story of New York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom’s 2018 has been a sad, much-publicized one: deGrom consistently pitches like a Cy Young candidate, and either the Mets’ offense doesn’t score or the bullpen blows a late lead for him. Fortunately, disaster finally did not strike for deGrom on Monday against the Colorado Rockies. deGrom was his usual deGrominant self, allowing only one earned run on five hits and a walk while striking out seven across eight innings pitched. He somehow lowered his ERA again, down to 1.51 for the year with a 0.99 WHIP. He also owns an absurd 120 strikeouts against 24 walks. The man is simply not human. Because of the Mets’ ineptitude though, the win was only deGrom’s fifth of the season and his first since May 18. Regardless of the overall lack of victories, you are obviously starting him every time he takes the mound.--John Smith
