7 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom was cruising with ease against the Miami Marlins on Tuesday, until the fifth inning that is. Miami put up four runs that inning, capped by a two-run homer from first baseman Justin Bour. However, deGrom rebounded for a scoreless fifth inning before being lifted, and the fifth inning wasn’t as bad as it sounds. According to Statcast (per Newsday), four of the five batted balls in the fifth inning had a 42 percent or fewer chance of finding success, yet they did. Those are the ropes sometimes. deGrom finished with a line of six innings pitched, four earned runs, seven hits, one walk and six strikeouts. Next up for deGrom will be a home start against the division-rival Washington Nationals.--John Smith
