7 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom has been out since May 2 with a hyperextended right elbow, but on Sunday he’ll look to make his triumphant return to the rotation against the Philadelphia Phillies. Originally slated to miss four starts, deGrom only ended up missing one in a short stint on the 10-day disabled list. This is great short-term news, but long-term, we’re still weary. Obviously, any elbow injury for a pitcher is serious business. Injury experts are not optimistic on deGrom’s chances to make it through the rest of the season healthy; though the common thought seems to be if he makes it through his next two-to-three starts unscathed, the odds of him lasting the year go way up. For Sunday alone, that doesn’t matter. DeGrom is obviously an ace, and if he’s feeling well though to pitch then you should feel well enough about starting him.--John Smith
