Jacob deGrom Nearing Rehab Assignment
2 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (shoulder) threw 27 pitches on Wednesday in his third live batting practice session, and skipper Buck Showalter said the team will discuss his next steps on Thursday. A minor league rehab assignment for deGrom could be close. "All these things he's doing are setting him up to pitch in games," Showalter said. It's unclear how many rehab starts the 34-year-old right-hander will need before the Mets allow him to make his 2022 season debut in the majors, but deGrom is getting closer. His return will be a major boost to a Mets rotation that has been blasted by injuries all season long. When healthy, deGrom still has the ability to be the best pitcher in baseball.
