Jacob deGrom Plans To Opt Out After Season
3 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom said he plans to opt out of his contract following the 2022 season with the hopes of negotiating a long-term deal with the team. The 33-year-old right-hander tossed his first bullpen session of the spring on Monday and said that his troublesome right elbow felt fine in the offseason. deGrom made just 15 starts in 2021 (1.08 ERA, 0.55 WHIP) but still managed to make his fourth All-Star team. The two-time Cy Young winner said he's ready to make 30 starts in 2022 and will form one of the best one-two rotation punches with Max Scherzer this season. Despite his elbow issues from a year ago, deGrom is RotoBaller's No. 2 overall fantasy starter and is ranked 10th overall going into the 2022 season.
