Jacob deGrom Plays Catch Thursday
4 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jacob deGrom (back) reportedly responded well to treatment and was able to play catch in the outfield on Thursday. Although the Mets have expressed some skepticism regarding deGrom's availability for Opening Day, manager Luis Rojas indicated that all signs were pointing in the right direction toward having him ready for the opener. Rojas cautioned, however, that the day-to-day approach for deGrom will stay in place. Rojas also did not commit to whether deGrom would be able to throw a bullpen session on Friday. If deGrom gets the green light to start on Opening Day, he will most assuredly be placed on a pitch count. He also could be limited in terms of innings at the outset of the 2020 season due to the Mets' cautious approach. Notwithstanding what appears to be a minor back issue, deGrom remains an elite fantasy ace.
