Jacob Nix Has Strained UCL; Padres Rotation Getting Clearer
6 years agoSan Diego Padres starter Jacob Nix (elbow) is reported to have a strained ulnar collateral ligament. The current treatment is a rest period of six to eight weeks before planning next steps. Tommy John surgery is a real possibility. This is a major setback for Nix, who was positioned to compete for a starting job in a weak Padres rotation. The team’s No. 19 prospect will likely be sidelined through the first half of 2019 and likely into 2020 if he opts for surgery. With Nix injured, favorites for the Padres rotation are now Joey Lucchesi, Eric Lauer, Chris Paddack and Matt Strahm. The final spot remains up for grabs. All but Lauer are intriguing fantasy candidates that should immediately contribute to steady ratios and strikeouts in standard leagues.
