6 years agoSan Diego Padres starter Jacob Nix earned a victory Tuesday, firing 8 1/3 innings of one-run ball against the Seattle Mariners. Nix trotted out in the ninth with an opportunity for his first career shutout but a solo home run by Nelson Cruz abruptly ended his night. The 22-year-old rookie surrendered eight hits with no walks or strikeouts on an economical 79 pitches. In four starts, the Padres No. 14 prospect holds a 4.05 ERA and 1.35 WHIP. Aside from one disastrous outing on August 16, Nix has held his own with a 1.86 ERA in his other three starts. The lack of strikeouts (3.2 K/9) limits his upside but Nix could be a serviceable option for owners needing streamers down the stretch. His next chance will come at home on Sunday against the Colorado Rockies.--Andrew Le - RotoBaller
