Jake Diekman Earns Save For A's Versus Twins
4 years agoOakland Athletics relief pitcher Jake Diekman pitched a clean seventh inning with two strikeouts to earn the save in Game 2 of a doubleheader with the Twins on Tuesday. Lou Trivino had been operating as the closer for Oakland, but manager Bob Melvin opted to play the matchups in this game. Trivino was called on with two right-handed batters up in the sixth inning and the tying run on base. Diekman was saved for the seventh when he had the platoon advantage with Minnesota sending up two lefties. Both Diekman and Trivino have been lights out this season and can be rostered in categories leagues that are 15-teams or deeper. Trivino is still the reliever to roster right now in shallower leagues, but fantasy managers should monitor the A's bullpen moving forward.
