Jake Diekman Earns Seventh Save, Lou Trivino Picks Up Hold
3 years agoOakland Athletics relief pitcher Jake Diekman needed just seven pitches to retire the Astros in the ninth inning and earn his seventh save of the season. Diekman allowed a leadoff single to Yordan Alvarez, but got a double-play and a lineout to preserve a 2-1 win. It was Diekman's first save since May 26 as Lou Trivino had seemingly settled into the closer role for the A's. Trivino pitched the eighth inning in this game, however; it was a reminder that manager Bob Melvin prefers to play the matchups with the righty Trivino and the lefty Diekman. Trivino should still see the bulk of the saves, but those desperate can turn to Diekman who has been good in a setup role as he's got 45 strikeouts in 33 1/3 innings. Both relievers should be rostered in SV+HLD leagues.
