3 years agoOakland Athletics relief pitcher Jake Diekman picked up his sixth save of the season on Wednesday, allowing one hit and one walk with one strikeout in 1 1/3 scoreless innings of work in a 6-3 win over the Mariners. Wednesday's performance continued a trend for Diekman, as it appears he is starting to run away as the full-time closer for Oakland after sharing duties with Lou Trivino. Diekman is now 4-for-6 in save opportunities in the month of May, while Trivino has only gotten three save opportunities and converted two of them this month. The most telling sign however is that Trivino has not had a save opportunity since May 8. It may not be official yet, but it looks like the closer role belongs to Diekman now, and managers should make sure to scoop him up off the waiver-wire.--Michael Grennell - RotoBaller
