Jake Diekman Earns Third Save For A's
4 years agoOakland Athletics relief pitcher Jake Diekman pitched a clean ninth inning with two strikeouts to earn his third save of the season Monday. Diekman has primarily been the setup man for Oakland, but manager Bob Melvin also plays the matchups and preferred the lefty Diekman in the ninth. Lou Trivino leads the A's in saves, but he was used in the eighth inning, presumably to face the heart of the Toronto order. As a result, fantasy managers shouldn't sprint out to add Diekman simply because he picked up a save. The 34-year-old is a solid reliever who can provide strong ratios and the occasional save, but Trivino is the man to roster in standard-size mixed leagues. Diekman needs to be rostered in leagues that reward holds or in 15-plus team roto leagues.
