Jake Diekman Fires Scoreless Inning In Spring Training Game
4 years agoOakland Athletics relief pitcher Jake Diekman threw a 1-2-3 fifth inning in a Spring Training game against the White Sox on Sunday. The 34-year-old lefty was among the most dominant relievers in baseball last season posting a 0.42 ERA in 21 1/3 innings. Obviously, he won't sustain that pace over a larger sample size, but Diekman has established himself as a shutdown reliever with the A's pitching to an xBA under .200 in each of the last two seasons. He won't be the closer as long as Trevor Rosenthal is healthy, but in leagues that value holds, Diekman is a must-roster reliever and he's a decent stash in deep leagues as a backup to Rosenthal.
