Jake Diekman Whiffs Two In Perfect Inning Versus Yankees
3 years agoOakland Athletics relief pitcher Jake Diekman needed only 10 pitches to toss a clean innings versus the Yankees on Friday while collecting two strikeouts. Diekman has been a quality relief arm for Oakland this season as he's sporting a 2.96 ERA with a ton of whiffs, 65 K's across 48 2/3 innings to be exact. Despite pitching well, Diekman seems to have fallen in the A's bullpen pecking order as fellow-lefty Andrew Chafin has seen higher-leverage situations since being acquired from the Cubs at the trade deadline. Diekman's role had diminished anyway; he picked up his sixth save of the season back in May but he only has one since as Lou Trivino has earned more of a traditional closer role. Diekman has value in leagues that reward holds, but most managers can leave the lefty on waivers.
