3 years agoThe Cincinnati Bengals have hired San Francisco 49ers senior defensive assistant James Bettcher as their new linebackers coach. Al Golden, who was Cincy's linebackers coach in 2021, left to become the defensive coordinator at Notre Dame. Before his stint with San Francisco, Bettcher was the defensive coordinator for the New York Giants in 2018 and 2019 and for the Arizona Cardinals from 2015-17. The Bengals also hired Charles Burks to help coach the defense. Burks had a three-year stint with the Miami Dolphins and was promoted to cornerbacks coach in 2021. The Bengals defense finished the regular season ranked No. 26 against the pass, 17th in points per game, 15th in interceptions, 11th in sacks, ninth in forced fumbles and fifth against the run.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
