4 years agoNew York Mets catcher James McCann had another rough day at the plate on Sunday in the Mets' 4-2 win over the Diamondbacks. He went 1-for-4 with three strikeouts and a run scored. McCann is slashing just .210/.273/.247 with one home run, seven RBI, and 22 strikeouts in 88 plate appearances on the season. After getting off to a quick start in the first two weeks of the 2021 campaign, McCann has fallen way off. Though he coming off a solid 2020 campaign in which he posted a .289/.360/.536 slash line with seven home runs and 15 RBI, managers in shallow formats should look elsewhere for offensive production at the catcher position. Despite a 47.5% hard-hit rate, his other hitting metrics, including an overall barrel rate, xwOBA, and xSLG which are all in the bottom eight percent of MLB, suggest it may take some time for his bat to come around, if at all.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
