James Paxton Returns To Seattle On One-Year Deal
4 years agoThe Seattle Mariners and left-handed pitcher James Paxton have agreed on a one-year pact to re-unite the Canadian-born southpaw with the franchise that he spent the first six seasons of his career with. Paxton will reportedly make $8.5 million with the chance to rake in as much as $10 million if he hits certain performance-based incentives. Staying healthy has been Paxton's main bugaboo since he was dealt to New York, having thrown in just five games last year en route to a 6.64 ERA. During his six years with the Mariners, Paxton reeled off a 3.42 ERA and 9.5 K/9 rate, and with the team having an abundance of open rotation slots, the move back to Seattle figures to do wonders for his season-long Draft stock. He can be seen as a late-round arm that delivers solid production as long as he is able to stay on the mound.
