James Paxton Signs Unique Contract With Boston
3 years agoStarting pitcher James Paxton has agreed to a contract with the Boston Red Sox. The deal has a unique structure, as it will pay him $10 million dollars in 2022 and then contains a two-year option through 2024. The total value of the agreement could climb as high as $35 million dollars if Boston exercises that option. Paxton has endured two consecutive lost seasons, making only five starts in 2020 and only managing one inning in 2021 before needing Tommy John surgery. The southpaw has a career 3.59 ERA with 831 strikeouts in 754 2/3 innings. This is a high-upside signing for Boston, as Paxton effectively is set to replace the departed Eduardo Rodriguez in the starting rotation.
