Jameson Taillon Takes No-Decision in Pitchers' Duel
7 years agoPittsburgh Pirates pitcher Jameson Taillon was denied his third win of the season against the Miami Marlins on Saturday despite not allowing a run in six innings of work. Taillon struck out two and surrendered only four hits and three walks on the night, but he was matched pitch for pitch by his counterpart, Trevor Richards. The right-hander didn't have his most dominant strikeout stuff, instead inducing a whopping 13 ground outs against only two fly outs. The 2018 campaign is off to a promising start for Taillon, who holds a 0.89 ERA and 3.15 xFIP through three outings. His strikeout rate is up (24.0 percent), his walk percentage is down (6.7 percent), and he's getting weak contact at a well above-average clip (average exit velocity of 86.1 mph). He'll look to keep the hot start going against the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday.
