7 years agoPittsburgh Pirates right-hander Jameson Taillon tied a career best with nine strikeouts in a win against the Minnesota Twins on Monday. He allowed just two runs on four hits and no walks in 5 1/3 innings to keep his team undefeated. Taillon cruised through the first five innings, allowing only two baserunners, but he ran into trouble with one out in the sixth when Brian Dozier hit a solo home run. After allowing a single to the next hitter, Taillon was removed from the game at 91 pitches. Still, it was a positive first outing in what could be a breakout season for the 26-year-old if he stays healthy.--Matt Wilkes
