Jared Goff Finished The Year Off Strong
3 years agoDetroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff had a rough beginning to his time in Detroit in 2021, but he finished the season on a high note and might have earned the starting role heading into the 2022 season, especially considering that this year's QB class in the draft is weak. Goff's 91.5 passer rating set a franchise record for a QB's first year with the team, and he had a 107.1 passer rating in five healthy games with head coach Dan Campbell calling the plays. The 27-year-old did fumble nine times, which was 10th-most in the league, but only two of those fumbles came in the second half. Goff finished with 3,245 yards and completed 67.2% of his passes for 19 touchdowns and eight interceptions. He won't suddenly become a great downfield passer, but if he sticks as the starting QB in Detroit and the Lions upgrade his weapons, he could be a serviceable fantasy backup next season.
