Jared Hughes Pitches In Ninth Inning On Wednesday
7 years agoCincinnati Reds relief pitcher Jared Hughes pitched in the ninth inning of an extra-innings loss on Wednesday against the Pirates. Hughes entered with the game tied 4-4, giving up a single with no walks and no strikeouts. Interim manager Jim Riggleman said that Hughes was one of five Reds relievers that could see save opportunities with closer Raisel Iglesias (biceps) heading to the 10-day DL. Hughes does not possess the strikeout potential teams look for in a closer (6.91 K/9) but has posted a solid 1.26 ERA in 28 2/3 innings pitched this season. Hughes was the first Reds reliever to see time in the ninth inning since Iglesias' injury, but fantasy players may need some help from the tea leaves to decipher the Reds closer situation for the near future.
