Jason Vargas Destroyed For Third Straight Start
7 years agoIn 2017, New York Mets starting pitcher Jason Vargas was a tale of two pitchers. He owned an incredible 2.62 ERA in the first half but followed it up with a downright awful 6.38 mark in the second half. When the Mets signed him this offseason, they thought reuniting him with former pitching coach Dave Eiland would do the trick and they could fix him up to what he was to start last season. Vargas is still awful. On Tuesday against the Cincinnati Reds, he allowed four earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out one across four innings pitched. Vargas will remain in the rotation, according to manger Mickey Callaway, but that’s mainly because the Mets have too many starters who are borderline rotation-worthy as it is and literally do not have enough capable pitchers in the minors that would be worth a shot if they needed to replace them all. Vargas shouldn’t be owned right now.
