Jason Vargas Making Progress
7 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jason Vargas was never expected to be out long after undergoing surgery to remove the hamate bone in his non-throwing right hand, and it sounds as though he’s right on schedule. Vargas is set to throw a “controlled” simulated game on Saturday in Port St. Lucie. He “felt really good” after throwing a 65-pitch bullpen session on Monday, which included facing rehabbing outfielder Michael Conforto)=. Vargas is likely to be back within two weeks, with Seth Lugo the obvious candidate to be bumped from the Amazins rotation when he does. Outside of a spot start in an advantageous matchup, Vargas won’t carry a ton of fantasy value.
