7 years agoResults of rehab and minor league starts for major leaguers making their way back from injury should be taken with a grain of salt, but they’re always worth checking nonetheless. New York Mets starting pitcher Jason Vargas (hand) made what is presumably his final rehab start on Monday. Health-wise it was great, but results-wise it wasn’t. Vargas pitched four innings and allowed three runs on three hits, but the start was at Triple-A Las Vegas, where the ball flies and the runs pile up. Vargas started off strong, retiring five of the first six hitters he faced, but then he allowed the aforementioned three runs and three doubles in the third inning. He struck out four in the outing. With Matt Harvey moving to the bullpen, Vargas is set to take his place in the rotation at some point this weekend in San Diego. He’s not worth owning outright in the vast majority of fantasy leagues, but he has streamer appeal based on the matchups.--John Smith
