Jason Vargas Strikes Out 12 In Intrasquad Game
7 years agoNew York Mets starting pitcher Jason Vargas is nearing closer to his return from a fracture in his non-throwing right hand, and if Monday’s intrasquad game was any indication, he’s more than ready to do so. Vargas struck out 12 hitters across six hitless innings, throwing a total of 82 pitches. He’ll likely get a minor league rehab start over the weekend and assuming all goes well, he may be able to join the team in a little under two weeks. The real question here is what the Mets do if Vargas’ replacement in the rotation, starting pitcher Zack Wheeler, continues to dominate in the majors. The Mets could have a good problem on their hands, but a problem nonetheless.
