Javier Baez Says He Is Having A “Perfect” Spring
7 years agoSpeaking to reporters on Friday, Chicago Cubs infielder Javier Baez said his spring training has been “perfect” so far. Earlier in the week it was reported that Baez could get 500 to 600 at-bats this year but would have to improve his plate discipline, strikeouts and drive balls all over the field. Baez should get plenty of playing time this year due to his defense, but with infielder/outfielder Ben Zobrist aging and missing time with a back injury, 2018 could be the year Baez becomes the everyday second baseman. Eligible at both second base and shortstop along with one of the best power strokes in the game, Baez makes for a good option in mixed leagues. He should be targeted in the middle to late rounds, and his stock will improve if Zobrist is out or pushed into a bench role.
