6 years ago2018 has been quite the trying season for New York Mets outfielder Jay Bruce, as evidenced by the headline of this post. After signing a new three-year contract with the Mets this past offseason, Bruce has largely struggled in year one of the contract – possibly due to plantar fasciitis in his left foot and/or possibly just due to "normal" (but extreme) baseball struggles. While the New York Mets offense didn’t do much of anything in an 8-2 loss to the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday, Bruce was the lone bright spot for once. He finished 1-for-4 with a double and two RBI. The double was Bruce’s first since May 30, which also marks the last time he picked up an extra-base hit. Bruce is still hitting a poor .220/.298/.332 with only three home runs on the year.--John Smith
