Jay Bruce Takes Reps At First Base
7 years agoNew York Mets outfielder Jay Bruce may have had the night off on Tuesday, but he did take repetitions at first base before the team's win over the Miami Marlins. The Mets have been looking to get him practice there since spring training, but a foot injury prevented it until now. Of course, Bruce spent some time at the position last season before being dealt to the Cleveland Indians prior to re-signing in Queens this past winter. While he said he didn’t expect to play first base when he re-signed, there’s no doubt it’s been discussed. As solid as current first baseman Adrian Gonzalez has been thus far, the lineup is a much better one without him in it. It’s unlikely we see Bruce make the switch for a long time yet, if at all, but it’s clear the Mets have it in the back of their minds.
