4 years agoNew York Mets infielder Jed Lowrie (leg) was placed on the injured list on Monday with left knee discomfort. Despite an entire offseason and the prolonged MLB shutdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Lowrie was unable to overcome his leg injury. This issue has plagued him since he signed a two-year, $20 million deal with the Mets before the 2019 season. Since spring training, Lowrie has been sporting a large brace on his left leg which impacts his ability to play. Although he has been able to participate in batting practice, Lowrie has been unable to sprint or play the field at anything resembling MLB game speed. Manager Luis Rojas even stated that he was unsure if surgery might be an option for Lowrie. At this point, it is unlikely Lowrie will be able to contribute at all in 2020, even if he rests during a lengthy IL stint. It is becoming more apparent that Lowrie's entire career with the Mets may be comprised of the eight at-bats he had with the team in late 2019. Lowrie should be ignored in all fantasy formats going forward.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
