Jed Lowrie Still Trying To Transition Out Of Leg Brace
4 years agoNew York Mets infielder Jed Lowrie (leg) has been named to the Mets 60-man player pool for 2020. Despite his availability in the player pool, Lowrie is still dealing with lingering left leg injuries almost three months removed from spring training. During spring training, Lowrie had been sporting a large brace on his left leg which had prevented him from getting into Grapefruit League games. Mets GM Brodie Van Wagenen indicated on Monday that the Mets hope Lowrie can transition out of the leg brace and see advanced baseball action. With this news, it remains highly questionable that Lowrie will be ready to go by July's Opening Day. Lowrie missed nearly all of last season with left knee and hamstring injuries. If he can eventually overcome these injuries, Lowrie will function in a utility infielder role. That said, it would take an injury to Jeff McNeil, Robinson Cano and/or Amed Rosario to guarantee consistent playing time for him in the shortened 2020 season. As such, even if somehow healthy, Lowrie is nothing more than a waiver claim as bench depth in NL-only formats.
