Jed Lowrie Will Not Play In Sunday's Exhibition
4 years agoNew York Mets infielder Jed Lowrie (leg) will not play in Sunday's exhibition against the Yankees. Lowrie, who also sat for Saturday's exhibition, is still sporting a large brace on his left leg that impacts his ability to play. Mets manager Luis Rojas indicated Lowrie is still having trouble with baserunning and movements on defense. Until Lowrie can transition completely from the leg brace, he will be of no use to the Mets. At this point, it is unlikely Lowrie will be activated by Opening Day. If Lowrie eventually overcomes his knee and hamstring issues, he will function in a utility infielder role. As a utility infielder, however, it would take an injury to Jeff McNeil, Robinson Cano and/or Amed Rosario to guarantee consistent playing time. As such, even if he is eventually able to play, Lowrie will not have fantasy relevance in 2020.
