Jeff McNeil Drives In Two On Wednesday
3 years agoNew York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil went 2-for-4 with two RBI in the first game of a doubleheader on Wednesday against the Brewers. McNeil's second hit was a two-run, walk-off single that won the game for the Mets 4-3. McNeil did not start in the nightcap, despite his first game heroics, but was called upon to pinch-hit in the second game and walked in his only plate appearance. After a slow start since returning from the injured list on June 21, McNeil is starting to pick it up at the plate. He is batting .316/.409/.316 with two RBI and three runs scored over his last seven games. Despite the hot streak, McNeil is still not hitting for power. He only has three homers on the season over 152 at-bats despite an overall hard-hit rate of 38% and exit velocity on FB/LD of 93 mph, both metrics which are better than numbers he posted in 2019 when he hit 23 home runs (overall hard-hit rate of 36.3% and EV on FB/LD of 92.2 mph). His metrics do suggest that positive regression may be forthcoming in the power department, so fantasy managers shouldn't lose hope. With McNeil beginning to find his groove again at the plate, managers should get him into their lineups, especially with the Mets slated to face the Pirates for seven games in a row beginning on Thursday.
