Jeff McNeil Expected To Return To Lineup Friday
4 years agoNew York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil (leg) is expected to return to the Mets' starting lineup on Friday when the Mets face the Tampa Bay Rays on the road. McNeil exited Tuesday's game against the Orioles with a cramp in his leg. Mets manager Luis Rojas was originally optimistic that McNeil would be good to go on Wednesday but ultimately opted to sit the 29-year old for fear of injuring him further. McNeil is off to a slow start in 2021, as is the case for many of the Mets' regulars. He is batting just .234/.333/.362 with two home runs and eight RBI over 94 at-bats on the season. Despite the slow start, McNeil is one of the purest hitters on the roster and, as he has proven in past seasons, he should be a stable source of elite hitting with solid RBI and run production once he gets his bat going. His multi-position eligibility in the outfield, second base, and third base further adds to his fantasy value. Managers should continue to keep McNeil active in all but the shallowest of leagues once he returns to the lineup.
