4 years agoNew York Mets infielder/outfielder Jeff McNeil is 0-for-7 through the first two games of the 2021 season, having gone 0-for-3 with a walk on Tuesday against the Philadelphia Phillies. Despite not yet registering a hit, managers should not be concerned. McNeil was robbed of a couple of hits in the season opener and is hitting the ball hard. It is only a matter of time before McNeil breaks through. Despite the fact that McNeil also hit only .109 during an underwhelming spring training (over 46 AB), he will be a stable source of elite hitting with solid RBI and run production in the middle of a very strong Mets lineup in 2021. McNeil is coming off a solid 2020 campaign in which he posted a .311/.383/.454 slash line over 183 at-bats, though he did see a decline in power production. Managers may wish to target league-mates who currently have McNeil rostered and who may be getting nervous due to these (very) early returns. McNeil is a great trade target who could potentially be acquired for a fraction of his true trade value from concerned managers.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
