Jeff McNeil Remains Red-Hot At The Plate
3 years agoNew York Mets second baseman Jeff McNeil went 2-for-6 with a home run, two RBI, and two runs scored in the Mets 15-11 win over the Reds in 11 innings on Monday. McNeil has been red-hot recently, finally breaking out after a season-long slumber at the plate. Over his last seven games, McNeil has posted a .360/.448/.520 slash line with one home run, five RBI, five runs scored, and one double. In July, McNeil is batting .333/.418/.417 over 48 at-bats, raising his season average to .260. Although he only has four homers on the season, his overall hard-hit rate of 35.7% is just slightly below his overall hard-hit rate of 36.3% from 2019 when he belted 23 home runs. Additionally, his EV on FB/LD of 92.7 mph exceeds the 92.2 mph he posted in 2019. These metrics suggest that positive regression with regard to home runs may be forthcoming. Managers should deploy McNeil in all formats, where he should contribute in the batting average, runs, RBI, and (hopefully) home run categories through the remainder of 2021.
