4 years agoSan Francisco Giants right-handed pitcher Jeff Samardzija announced following his start Sunday against the Rangers that he is a dealing with a blister on one of the fingers on his pitching hand. Samardzija said that the ailment is forcing him to throw a changeup, as opposed to a splitter, though per Baseball Savant, Samardzija hasn’t thrown a splitter yet this year. Either way, the alternation of his pitch mix may be playing a part in the fact that the veteran righty has allowed five runs in each of his first two starts in 2020. While always a candidate to go deep into games, Samardzija is an unreliable season-long asset at this stage as he deals with any lingering finger issues and can be avoided aside from two-start weeks or favorable DFS matchups when facing below average opposing offenses.--Jesse Borek
