5 years agoOakland Athletics starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo dazzled in a Spring Training start against the Mariners on Saturday. The left-hander allowed one run in 3 1/3 innings pitched, but struck out eight in the dominant effort. There was already plenty of hype around Luzardo, and his 97 MPH fastball; this start will kick that hype into overdrive. The top prospect struck out 16 batters in 12 MLB innings last season and has consistently averaged more than a strikeout per inning throughout his rapid ascent through the minors. He currently has an average draft position of 133rd overall, that will climb quickly if he continues this spring pace.--Mike Schwarzenbach - RotoBaller
