7 years agoThe New York Jets would likely consider free-agent quarterback AJ McCarron as a fallback option if they fail to sign Redskins impending free-agent Kirk Cousins, according to ESPN New York's Rich Cimini. The Jets considered trading for McCarron last year, but they chose veteran gunslinger Josh McCown instead, and Cimini personally still prefers McCown over McCarron. McCarron showed glimpses of promise when he made three starts down the stretch in 2015, but he is far from a finished product and doesn't have much experience starting in the NFL. Some scouts believe McCarron's ceiling is that of a solid game manager. For the Jets, it'd make more financial sense for them to re-sign McCown, who will probably command less than $12 million on a one-year deal. McCarron could command up to a three-year deal worth around $45 million. McCarron is a complete wild card if he lands a starting role somewhere. Playing for the Jets would probably be the least desirable landing spot for him in terms of fantasy value.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
