Jets Could Get Creative For Kirk Cousins
7 years agoThe New York Jets are viewed as the favorites to land Washington Redskins impending free-agent quarterback Kirk Cousins because they are projected to have $73.2 million in salary cap space, but they might get creative in order to give Cousins an offer he can't refuse. With running back Matt Forte and defensive end Muhammad Wilkerson expected to be cut, their cap space could be pushed to $92 million. Cousins is expected to exceed the $27.5 million per year the 49ers gave quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo. One league source speculated that the Jets could front load a contract and offer Cousins $60 million guaranteed in the first year of the deal. The Jets could also be willing to guarantee the entire contract. However, the Jets must also sell Cousins on the idea of winning, which might be the biggest hurdle. The Broncos, Vikings, Browns and Cardinals could also make runs at Cousins. In Washington with plenty of aerial weapons the last two years, Cousins was a QB1 and put up big numbers. But if he were to land in New York, he'd likely see his fantasy stock drop considerably.
