7 years agoQuarterback Josh McCown was originally looked at as an afterthought on the New York Jets prior to the 2017 season with the team desperately doing whatever they could to hand the starting gig to Christian Hackenberg. With Hackenberg tripping over himself at every step, though, combined with McCown’s surprisingly solid play, McCown played himself into QB1 relevance prior to getting hurt late in the year. With no better options (at least, until free agency and/or the draft), Jets general manager Mike Maccagnan is open to bringing back McCown for another go in 2018. Of course, this has Ryan Fitzpatrick of 2016 deja vu written all over it. McCown is coming off a career year at age 38, so the chances of him playing at such a high level and remaining healthy for as long as he did at age 39 are slim. Still, he could be a nice mentor for a young QB if the Jets do acquire one.--John Smith
