7 years agoThe New York Jets plan on exercising defensive end Leonard Williams' fifth-year player option before the May 3 deadline, according to a source. Williams was the No. 6 overall pick in the 2015 draft and will turn 24 this summer. He's scheduled to make $2.975 million in 2018, and his contract won't be full guaranteed until the start of the 2019 season. There is the option to place the franchise tag on Williams in 2020, but the team would like to sign him to a long-term extension if he continues on his current path. There's a good chance Williams and the Jets reach an agreement on an extension before he plays on the fifth-year option. He had just two sacks in 2017 while battling through a wrist injury, but he also had 25 quarterback hits. Williams has 65 QB hits and 12 sacks in his first three seasons and made the Pro Bowl in 2016.--Keith Hernandez - RotoBaller
