7 years agoThe save opportunities may be few and far between for New York Mets closer Jeurys Familia, but he sure is making all of his opportunities count. Familia picked up his 12th save of the season in a 3-1 victory over the Arizona Diamondbacks on Friday, throwing a perfect ninth inning and striking out all three batters he faced. After allowing a run in his last appearance on May 13, Familia rebounded with purpose in this one. For the season, Familia’s statistics remain sparkling -- a 1.80 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with 25 strikeouts across 20 innings pitched. With the Mets not winning as much, Familia isn’t getting as many save opportunities as owners would like, but he sure is returning pristine results anyway.--John Smith
