Jeurys Familia Records Four-Out Save
7 years agoThroughout spring training, new New York Mets manager Mickey Callaway consistently communicated that the team would play the ninth inning by matchup, and not necessarily have a set closer. We never expected that to last, but even this early on, through two games Jeurys Familia has pitched the ninth inning on both occasions. On Sunday, he recorded his first save of the season after coming on in the eighth inning for the injured Anthony Swarzak to record four outs in total. Familia didn’t allow a hit, but walk one and struck out one to shut the door on the St. Louis Cardinals. There would seem to be a solid chance we don’t see Familia on Sunday after pitching in each of the Mets’ first two games, but he certainly still seems like the closer for the New York Mets.
