4 years agoNew York Mets relief pitcher Jeurys Familia turned in a rough appearance in the Mets 8-4 win over the Marlins on Saturday. In just 2/3 innings pitched, Familia walked three of the five batters he faced, allowed one hit, and two earned runs. Familia now owns a bloated 5.68 ERA and 1.89 WHIP in 6 1/3 IP on the season. The slimmed down Familia had looked solid over his past few appearances prior to Saturday leading to speculation that he could be in the mix for save opportunities with Edwin Diaz struggling. Saturday, however, served as a grim reminder of Familia's volatile ways and control issues which led to a horrid 2019 season in which he posted a 5.70 ERA and a 1.73 WHIP in 60 IP. As a result of Saturday's performance, Familia is likely out of contention for any forthcoming save opportunities until he can string together a few solid, consistent appearances. Given the shortened season, owners can essentially ignore Familia in mixed leagues.--Nick Ritrivi - RotoBaller
