7 years agoNew York Mets reliever Jeurys Familia (shoulder) is scheduled to return and pitch on Thursday against the Miami Marlins. Familia hasn’t pitched since last Thursday when he got touched up and said his shoulder was tight. After throwing a bullpen session Tuesday, he declared himself ready to go. We wouldn’t worry about Familia’s struggles or his tight shoulder becoming a lingering issue. It’s not uncommon for pitchers to take some time to get things right in spring training. What we are more worried about, potentially, is Familia’s frequency for save opportunities. New Mets manager Mickey Callaway has consistently told the media he wants to play the matchups instead of using a set closer, but we’ve also heard that one before from other teams, and it didn’t work out well.--John Smith
