Jhoulys Chacin Expected To Sign With Rockies
4 years agoFree agent pitcher Jhoulys Chacin, who was seen playing catch in front of Rockies coaches earlier on Wednesday, is expected to sign with the club per beat writer Thomas Harding. Chacin was released by the Yankees just two days ago and said that the team should sign him to a Major League contract, which would place him on the active roster for Thursday's Opening Day game vs. the Dodgers. The Rockies would have to clear a spot on the 40-man roster for Chacin but have yet to announce who will be sent down. The 33-year-old RHP only appeared in two games with Braves last season but looked solid in the Grapefruit League over 9 1/3, mostly relief, innings with the Yanks. He was with the Rockies from 2009-2014 and should begin the season in their bullpen, where he could work high-leverage situations. He could also get the occasional spot start down the road.
