4 years agoTampa Bay Rays first baseman Ji-Man Choi will be shut down 7-10 days due to right knee inflammation. The first baseman has been dealing with right knee tightness and soreness over the last few days and met with team doctors earlier on Saturday. Rays manager Kevin Cash told reporters that the team isn't "overly concerned" with the issue but noted that they'll have a better idea if this will affect Choi's availability for Opening Day after a week of rest and rehabilitation. There's still plenty of time before Opening Day and Choi had been playing through the issue previously so he's not that rusty. The 29-year-old put up a .230/.331/.410 batting line with three home runs and 16 RBI over 122 at-bats for the reigning AL Champions last season but he's not a viable fantasy option at first. If he were to miss the start of the regular season the Rays have a few options that could man first base in his stead such as Yandy Diaz or Joey Wendle.--Jon Mathisen - RotoBaller
