Jimmy Garoppolo Could Still Be Traded
2 years agoThe San Francisco 49ers and quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo agreed to a restructured one-year deal on Monday that is worth $6.5 million in fully guaranteed base salary. The new deal also includes a no-trade and no-tag clause that ensures he'll be Trey Lance's backup in 2022. However, the two sides have discussed the option of waiving the no-trade clause if something develops this year and the 49ers can get compensation. The Athletic reported the reason Garoppolo waited to have his shoulder surgery in March was so that it would make it tough to trade him. The 30-year-old gives the team an experienced veteran with knowledge of the system in case anything were to happen to Lance. Garoppolo won't have any fantasy appeal unless Lance misses extended time with an injury or Garoppolo is traded midseason.
