Jimmy Garoppolo To Have Offseason Surgery
3 years agoSan Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo (thumb) is expected to have surgery on his right thumb as soon as it can be scheduled. Garoppolo was dealing with a torn ligament in his thumb and dealt with pain during the playoffs on every throw. He'll likely be looking at a four- to six-week recovery after he has the surgery, which means he'll be recovered in plenty of time for next season. The 49ers are expected to attempt to trade Garoppolo this offseason, but interested teams may want to wait until they are 100% sure that his thumb is fine. San Francisco is fully expected to move forward with first-rounder Trey Lance under center moving forward. In five seasons with the Niners, Garoppolo missed 25 games due to injury while throwing for 11,162 yards 66 touchdowns and 38 interceptions. He's mostly been a game manager and not much of a fantasy asset at QB, but his 2022 value will depend entirely on where he ends up.
